Our Mission
The mission of the New York State University Police at Binghamton is to provide law enforcement services that furnish a safe environment for the campus community.
The New York State University Police at Binghamton is a fully accredited law enforcement agency dedicated to ensuring a safe, secure, and supportive environment for our students, faculty, staff, and visitors. Our officers are trained professionals who work collaboratively with the campus community to prevent crime, promote safety, and respond effectively to emergencies. We are committed to community-oriented policing, building trust through visibility, accessibility, and open communication, and fostering a campus where learning and personal growth can thrive.
Community Policing
The New York State University Police at Binghamton follow a community policing model. University Police strive to collaborate and build partnerships with the University Community in an effort to identify areas of concern and find beneficial solutions. This relationship is founded on close, mutually beneficial ties between our officers and members of the campus community. Our mutual goal is to develop a strong, self-sufficient community and to create an atmosphere in which crime will not flourish.
Training
University Police undergo training year round. In addition to in-service training twice per year, department members are sent to classes and schools on various police related topics that follow current trends as well as any state mandates. In-service training serves as a refresher on state mandated training topics. These range from weapons qualification to legal updates on state laws.
