ºÚÁÏÊÓÆµ is committed to creating a supportive and inclusive environment for all students. We understand how challenging it can be to be a parent and a student at the same time. ºÚÁÏÊÓÆµCI supports your academic achievement amidst the unique challenges and additional responsibilities you face as a parenting student, also referred to as Dolphin with Dependents. We have various support services designed to you succeed not only inside the classroom, but outside of the classroom, as your children will experience ºÚÁÏÊÓÆµCI for the first time themselves. Below you will find several resources that may be helpful to you as you balance both these roles.

Priority Registration

    • Basic Needs Program at ºÚÁÏÊÓÆµ Channel Islands
      • The Basic Needs Program at ºÚÁÏÊÓÆµCI offers emergency food and toiletries, connects students to critical on and off-campus resources, and provides educational opportunities for students to take personal responsibility for their wellness and the well-being of their communities.
      • We offer one time parenting student Care Packages if you are in need of a few specific items for you or your child that would apply toward a Basic Need and are not available in our Dolphin Pantry. Please submit a self-referral via our website to request support. 
      • The Channel Islands Boating Center (CIBC) opened in April 2013 to provide educational and recreational opportunities for and adults of Ventura County, the ºÚÁÏÊÓÆµ Channel Islands community, and others from our region.

    • California Earned Income Tax Credit ()
      • A state-level tax credit that helps low-income workers and families in California either reduce their tax owed or provide a refund; administered by the California Franchise Tax Board.
      • Supplements the federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) by providing financial support based on income and family size.
    •  Earned Income Tax Credit ()
      • Helps low- to moderate-income workers and families get a tax break. If you qualify, you can use the credit to reduce the taxes you owe – and maybe increase your refund.
      • The amount of your credit may change if you have children, dependents, are disabled or meet other criteria.

      • May provide you with cash back or reduce any tax you owe. California families qualify with earned income of $31,950 or less. You also must have a qualifying child under 6 years old at the end of the tax year and qualify for CalEITC – with one exception.

Scholarships for Students with Children

  • : This is awarded to low-income women 35 years and older who are U.S. citizens pursuing their first degree. It is available to students pursuing a bachelor's, an associate's, or a vocational degree.
  • : This award is exclusively for mothers who are the primary breadwinners for their families and who have overcome hardship such as domestic violence, alcohol and drug use, and/or poverty. The organization awards over $1.5 million in scholarships annually. Domestic awards range from $3,000 to $5,000; three international awards are available at $10,000 each.
  • : This foundation offers awards to low-income women to assist with school expenses and tuition. Applicants must be parents of at least one minor child and must be at least 17 years old. Awards are given for bachelor's, associate's, or vocational degrees or certificates. The foundation provides up to five $5,000.00 awards annually.
