The Edu Corps program is a collaboration between the Center for Community Engagement and Federal Work Study. Edu Corps members provide homework, literacy, and mentoring activities and support to elementary-age school children. A majority of these activities will be supporting elementary school-age children and participating in teacher-directed activities. The Edu Corps will participate in directed activities, computer literacy programs, homework assistance, and general duties as required. Various sites throughout the Oxnard, Camarillo, Ventura, and Somis areas are available.
Applicants must be:
- A current ºÚÁÏÊÓÆµCI undergraduate student
- Federal Work Study eligible
- Commit to working 10-15 hours per week in the fall and spring semesters
- Available afternoon or early evening for some locations
- Make a one-year commitment (Aug-May)
- Have reliable transportation to the site
- Pay rate: $20.00 an hour

Jasmine Gomez
Jasmine Gomez is a senior in the Liberal Studies Program and plans to graduate in 2026. Jasmine chose ºÚÁÏÊÓÆµCI for its small class sizes and ideal student-to-professor ratio, which supports her learning style. After graduation, she plans to enter ºÚÁÏÊÓÆµCI's Teaching Credential Program to earn her multiple subject credential and begin a career as a local teacher. Currently, she works at , where she provides academic support to elementary school students. This position allows her to learn from both teachers and students and to become more connected with the community she joined two years ago. It also aligns with her academic goal of becoming an inclusive educator. Once Jasmine graduates she is looking forward to teaching across all grade levels and hopes to one day coach a school basketball team.

Maria Tellez Mendoza
Maria Tellez Mendoza is a junior, majoring in Liberal Studies. She was attracted to this position because she enjoys working with kids. After graduation, she plans to earn a teaching credential and eventually lead a third-grade class. Maria also comes to this position with experience interning at two different schools and was involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Ventura County. Breezin Brick
Breezin Brick is a Senior, majoring in Liberal Studies. She believes it’s important to be involved in your community because it helps strengthen community connection and helps you grow as a person. Small actions lead to big impacts. After graduation, she would like to join the Peace Corps or work as an au pair, traveling as much as possible before settling down in a career as a teacher. Mariana Perez Gonzalez
Mariana Perez Gonzalez is a first year, majoring in History. As a first-generation Latina, she believes that being involved in the community is crucial. Not only does it give a sense of belonging, but it helps create networking opportunities for the future. During her high school years, Mariana was able to complete an Associate’s Degree. Montserrat Romero Hernandez is a junior, majoring in ESRM with a minor in Chicana/o Studies. She was attracted to this position because she participated in similar after-school programs growing up in the Central Valley. She’s looking forward to giving back to a program that gave her so much. After graduation, Montserrat plans to work towards environmental justice, protecting agriculture workers from the harmful effects of pesticides.
