About Us
Binghamton Motorsport鈥檚 FSAE team is a student-driven motorsports team that designs, manufactures and races a Formula-style electric race car. Each car competes in SAE Formula EV at Michigan International Speedway, a competition composed of the country鈥檚 top 75 universities. The goal of the competition is to follow key engineering practices to optimize performance while minimizing cost. Cars that compete accelerate and corner faster than most road-going sports cars. The team has had the opportunity to compete at multiple competition venues (including New Hampshire International Speedway, Watkins Glen International Speedway and Brechin Motorsports Park).
The primary purpose of this project is to provide a proving ground for students to develop their critical thinking and communication skills. Students implement the knowledge gained from their classes into various areas of the vehicle, such as vehicle dynamics, financial management, electrical control systems and composite manufacturing.
Binghamton Motorsports FSAE began as a series of disconnected senior capstone projects between 2005 and 2018. In 2019, the team joined the school under 黑料视频鈥檚 Watson Competes! Program, opening up to all students. In 2023, the team transitioned powertrains from internal combustion to electric, building the team鈥檚 first battery-powered race car in seven years, representing our ongoing commitment towards sustainable energy and battery research.
